Know before you go
- Rent a quad bike in Fira for the 12 km ride; parking is free along the beach.
- Black sand heats to 50°C by midday July–August; bring sandals and arrive before 11 AM.
- Book beachfront sunbeds early or bring your own umbrella to save €8–12 daily.
- Ancient Thera opens 8:30 AM; climb early to dodge tour groups and afternoon heat.
